Homebase classes at Algonquin Middle School are scheduled during the first hour of the day. I love teaching this class because teachers are given curriculum control. Homebase is designed as an advisory for the ever-changing middle school student. It is their home away from home. In my Homebase class we discuss issues such as goal setting, peer pressure, and self esteem. We stage debates over topics such as , "Should students get paid to go to school?" Also, because my Homebase students consist of all the advanced math kids, we do extended math enrichments.

What a job!
Students had to draw a poster representing what their interpretation of peace means. This was a National Lion's Club Contest.

Homebase Hour 1 |
Students tested their bridges using weights. Bridges were assessed using a rubric. The bridges had to follow certain criteria. For example, they had to be neat, under budget, and at least 5cm high. The bridge that won was able to hold over 1500g and 15 math books!
